Celebrating Tourism in the Midlands

We were delighted to join the Visit Coventry table at the first West Midlands Tourism Awards on Wednesday 26 February 2020 with Destination Partnership stakeholders celebrating tourism in Coventry, Warwickshire and the region.

The prestigious awards recognise the success of tourism across the region and promote the strength of the leisure and business tourism offer – its venues, people, experiences and accommodation.

The awards, held at the Great Hall, University of Birmingham, organised by the West Midlands Growth Company (WMGC) and also serve to highlight the importance of tourism’s contribution to the regional economy – currently standing at £12.6bn – which the WMGC, with their industry partners, seeks to grow over the coming 10 years, using major events including UK City of Culture 2021 in Coventry and the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games as a springboard.

The glittering awards ceremony, hosted by Homes Under The Hammer TV presenter Martin Roberts, showcased the most impressive organisations helping to attract and entertain tourists in the region.

All gold and silver winners will now automatically be nominated for the Visit England National Awards for Excellence, held later this year, for another shot at glory.

Prize worthy performances were given by Black Voices singers and The Royal Shakespeare Company(RSC) shared a performance from one of the cast from its celebrated The Boy In The Dress musical.
